Medical Assistant

Job Summary

In this position, you would be responsible for assisting a team of physicians and other health care professionals to provide patient care services within a medical assistants’ scope of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares examination and treatment areas.
  • Prepares patient for examination, treatment, and procedures.
  • Documents care of patient via electronic medical records.
  • Collects, completes and processes lab specimens and required paperwork.
  • Prepares, administers medications and immunizations under the supervision of a provider.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Assists provider with screening and follow-up with patient test results.
  • Expedites referrals to other health care providers.
  • Routes phone calls.
  • Calls in prescriptions under the direction of the provider.
  • Complies with documentation requirements.
  • Maintains compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations.

Experience

Six months medical assistant experience or previous physician office experience preferred.

Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) preferred.

Education

High School/GED is required.
Completion of accredited medical assisting program.

Certification

Certification and/or Registered Medical Assistant (AAMA, AMT or ARMA) preferred and required within 6 months of hire.

American Heart CPR certification required.

Medical Front Office

Job Summary

In this position, you would be responsible for providing medical office support for a team of physicians and other health care providers, including greeting patients and visitors in a kind and caring manner. Provide friendly customer service throughout the patient check-in and check-out process.

Responsibilities

  • Provides exemplary customer service; greeting and directing patients, family members and other visitors.
  • Schedules appointments and accurately enters data into the scheduling system.
  • Registers patients and enters or updates demographic and insurance information into the Practice Management and EMR systems.
  • Collects patient payments.
  • Balances daily superbills and funds collected.
  • Answers incoming calls and responds and directs caller to appropriate staff for assistance.

Billing and Collections

Job Summary

Performs tasks required to ensure the timely and accurate submission of insurance claims to all third party payers and documents billing activity in the patient accounting system.

Responsibilities

  • Works daily electronic billing file and submits insurance claims to third party payers.
  • Reviews daily edit reports from the billing system and makes necessary corrections to allow electronic submission.
  • Identifies errors and makes appropriate corrections to ensure accurate claim submission.
  • Monitor claim rejections.
  • Prepare and submit manual insurance claims to third party payers who do not accept electronic claims or require special handling.
  • Review claims edit for accuracy.
  • Submits all clean claims daily.
  • Process re-bills as requested by collectors.
  • Completes tasks and assignments in a timely manner. Able to act independently when necessary.
  • Maintains follow-up procedures and working relationships with area responsible for the information, including medical records, patient access, and/or physicians.
  • Documents activity in an accurate and timely manner on the patient’s account.
  • Maintains proficiency and level of knowledge with all systems required for task completion.

Experience

Previous experience in patient accounting, specifically billing and collections. Able to communicate clearly and professionally. Possess strong organization and time management skills, and have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient computer skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Education

High School/GED is required.

Some college course work is preferred but not required.
